[working for the weekend] spring break edition

The mercury sidled up to 70 degrees and backed off today – not too aggressively but surely sending the message that yes, it does remember how to get there. The sun has sat in a cloudless sky for most of the day.

And yet somehow, many of us will still be happy that we’re indoors much of the next two days.

putting theater in its place (1990)

Noh Antigone - Magic Circle TheatreScott Fosdick had a lot of writing on theatre under his belt – notably as the critic for the Baltimore News American – before fixing his gaze on academia. While writing his dissertation on the Chicago scene (and its critics) at Northwestern University, he curated the 1990 exhibition of the Chicago Theater Collection at the Chicago Public Library Resetting the Stage: Theater Beyond the Loop 1960-1990. In the following essay – reprinted here as part of a series looking back on that exhibition – Scott discusses the problem with “Regional Theatre” and the phantom “Chicago style.”
